There are three main levels of qualification that you can achieve:- Following successful graduation from the 3rd level training, you will be awarded the following qualifications:- (1) The Surveyor's Licence : This allows you to work as a surveyor, call yourself a surveyor and operate within the scope of your work. Under Part 4 of the Planning and Building Act 2000, it is an offence to undertake surveying without having first obtained this licence. It also enables you to represent yourself as a surveyor (2) The Member of the Royal Institution Of Surveyors (MROIS): This is your professional qualification, enabling you to practise as an engineer. The qualification is conducted and awarded by The Royal Institution Of Surveyors. (3) The Associate of the Royal Institution Of Surveyors (AROIS): This is a postgraduate qualification, or advanced level qualification which can be studied under the rules of a university or similar institution. 'The New Rules' In order to help you become a surveyor, the new Government have introduced some new rules:- These changes will affect both landowners and potential surveyors alike. In most cases, these changes will not start being enforced until Autumn 2014. These rules are designed mainly to regulate the price paid by owners for surveying work and ensure that only qualified people carry out the work commissioned from them. The rules include:- These changes are designed to ensure that the public can obtain surveying services at competitive prices whilst ensuring that there is adequate protection for the consumer in relation to the quality of work.
